This is Lazarus Carrik, my Adeptus Mechanicus character used in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy.
Lazarus was born on the planet Vostroya, where each firstborn son is placed in the Vostroyan Firstborn Regiments (hence the name). However, Lazarus had an older brother, named Petrov who joined the ranks instead. Both Petrov and their father Milan died in battle on different battlefields in the Emperor's name. Lazarus remained indifferent to these losses and instead concentrated on becoming a valued member of the Adeptus Mechanicus. It did not take long for him to become a Technographer (and later Mech-Wright) by doing field repairs, equipment maintenance and cataloging all the supplies and ammunition. He does have a hobby however, a bloody and gruesome art where he takes Xenos corpses into his personal quarters and uses his crafty hands to dissect and analyze them in detail. He did so with a bloodstained scalpel in hand and an ominous grin on his face. He accepts everything from body parts, bits of equipment and technology, even alien flora and fauna, but his favorite experiments are preformed on living specimens. This behavior has earned him a lot of flak from his "comrades" within the Vostroyan Firstborn Regiments (most notably from Commissars). But eventually, his study of the Xeno earned him merit and some fame after he took down a Big Mek mounted in a Deff Dread and then annihilated his noisy workshop. About a month later, an Inquisitor from the Ordo Hereticus came to visit Lazarus. Apparently the Inquisitor respected Lazarus' work, agreeing with the fact that studying Xenos might help the Imperium greatly and that some sacrifices must be made to achieve a greater goal. Ever since their encounter, Lazarus Carrik was a welcome member in Inquisitor Zael's Acolyte Retinue and he now does his research within the Calixis Sector.
The GM for our Dark Heresy sessions is
and he's a pretty cool guy.
